Laboratory
Ideal Vacuum Products is seeking a smart, motivated, hands-on
scientist to join our laser spectroscopy research laboratory
in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This full-time position will work under the supervision of
Dr. Tyler Herman and Dr. Dennis Clouthier
conducting experimental research involving laser spectroscopy,
gas-phase molecular species, high-vacuum systems, scientific
instrumentation, high-speed electronics, optics, and computers.
Our research focuses on using laser spectroscopic methods to
identify and characterize new gas-phase molecules important to
semiconductor growth processes, main-group chemistry,
chemical physics, and astrophysics.
Prior laser spectroscopy experience is an asset but is not
required. We are willing to train a motivated scientist with
the appropriate educational background, curiosity, and
experimental aptitude.
The Research
This is a hands-on experimental research position for someone
who enjoys working with sophisticated scientific equipment,
solving technical problems, developing experiments, and
making new scientific discoveries.
Researchers use laser-based spectroscopic methods to study
gas-phase molecular species and reactive intermediates.
Experimental work may involve lasers, optical systems,
vacuum chambers, molecular sources, detectors, electronics,
computer-controlled instrumentation, and scientific data
analysis.
You will work in a well-equipped research laboratory supported
by the engineering, machining, manufacturing, and vacuum
technology expertise available throughout Ideal Vacuum.

The Ideal Candidate
You may be a strong fit for this position if you enjoy
understanding how things work, building and improving
experiments, solving difficult technical problems, and
working directly with sophisticated scientific equipment.
We are looking for someone who is naturally curious,
patient, detail-oriented, and persistent. Experimental
research does not always work perfectly the first time,
so the ability to systematically troubleshoot problems,
test ideas, and learn from experimental results is
important.
The ideal candidate will enjoy the process of scientific
discovery and be excited by the opportunity to identify
and characterize molecules that may not have been
previously observed or fully understood.
Research Environment
Ideal Vacuum provides a unique environment combining
scientific research with the resources of an established
vacuum technology and manufacturing company.
Researchers have access to advanced laser systems,
optical instrumentation, high-vacuum equipment,
detectors, electronics, computer-controlled experiments,
engineering support, and in-house manufacturing
capabilities.
Our in-house technical resources allow researchers to
design, build, modify, and improve experimental
components and laboratory apparatus as research
requirements evolve.
