Hamamatsu Photomultiplier Tube: R955, 28 mm Diameter Photocathode, 9-Stage, Side-On, Cathode Luminous Sensitivity: 250 µA/lm
Photomultiplier tubes (PMT) are extremely sensitive light detectors which amplify the current produced by incident light, allowing individual photons to be registered and observed. PMT's are used in a variety of applications which require ultra-sensitive photometric capabilities such as:
- Biomedical Analysis: Florescence Immuno Assy, Flow Cytometer, MTP Reader
- Environmental Monitoring: NOx Analyzer
- Spectroscopy: UV-VIS Spectrometer, Fluorescence Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption, Raman Spectrometer
- Semiconductor Industry: Wafer Inspection, Particle Counter
These R955 PMT's are side-on photomultiplier tubes, using a circular-cage type electron multiplier which has the benefits of compactness and fast response time. Side-on PMT's often demonstrate higher quantum efficiencies than head-on (end-on) PMT's having photocathodes of similar composition. Typical head on PMT's use a Box and Grid type dynode setup and can experience slow response time in some applications. Side-on PMT's are relatively low cost compared to head-on and are standard in photometrics.
These R955 PMT's have a Spectral Response of 160 to 900 nm and a Quantum Efficiency of 29% at 260 nm. A complete specifiaction manual is at downloads to the side.
Hamamatsu R955 Photomultiplier Tube—Agilent/Varian Compatibility: The Hamamatsu R955 is the high-sensitivity, wide-range photomultiplier tube used in Agilent 280FS Fast Sequential flame atomic-absorption spectrometers and Agilent 280Z Zeeman graphite-furnace atomic-absorption spectrometers, including the Agilent 280FS/280Z AA Duo system. The current Agilent replacement part number is 5610024100, specified as an R955 photomultiplier tube with a 160–900 nm spectral response; the corresponding legacy Varian-format part number is 56-100241-00. Legacy Varian applications include the AA280FS, AA280Z, SpectrAA-880, and SpectrAA-880Z/SpectrAA-880 Zeeman atomic-absorption spectrometers. Customers should verify the PMT model printed on the original tube, socket and connector configuration, instrument serial number, and applicable service-parts manual before ordering. Agilent/Varian 240-series instruments and the SpectrAA-55 and SpectrAA-220FS normally use the Hamamatsu R446 rather than the R955.
