Fast Access ISO-F 100 Entry Door with Viewing Window, Non-Illuminated, Demountable, 3/8 in. Fused Silica

Fast Access ISO-F 100 Entry Door with Viewing Window, Non-Illuminated, Demountable, 3/8 in. Fused Silica.

This Ideal Vacuum Fast Access ISO-F 100 Entry Door (FAED) with fused silica viewing window can be mounted to any vacuum chamber with an ISO 100 port (either ISO-K or ISO-F). These FAEDs include a manual knob for tightening the access door and are made of stainless steel with Viton O-rings and an external blue anodized aluminum window retaining ring. The approximate viewing diameter and door opening is 3.5" with a viewing area of 9.6 in2. Fast Access ISO Entry Doors are RATED FOR VACUUM ONLY for pressures to 1 x 10-7 Torr.

Fast Access ISO Entry Doors (FAEDs) with windows are available in ISO-100, 160, 200 and 250 flange sizes. They are used in place of blank ISO-K or ISO-F flanges and allow a user to inspect chamber processes, perform optical experiments, and quickly access the chamber for exchanging test objects. FAEDs are often used for load-lock applications. A FAED can be added to a vacuum chamber ISO port at any time.

These ISO-F flanged windows use single claw clamps, or nuts bolts, and washers along with a centering ring fitted with an O-ring for mounting. Use single claw clamps to mount to an ISO-K flange. Use nuts, bolts, and washers for joining two ISO-F flanges together (smooth bored or one threaded hole flange). See the table below for bolt sets and centering rings.

Please download and read the IVP Common Vacuum Fittings - Selection and Assembly Guide for hardware selection and for joining procedures for making leak-tight connections.

Our high purity fused silica windows are ground and polished to optical grade on both sides with a total thickness variation (TTV) of <10µm, a surface finish of S/D 40/20, and a surface roughness of Ra < 1 nm. These windows have appreciably improved transmittance, and a wider useful wavelength range than standard glass. Characteristics include extraordinarily low refractive index variations, low birefringence values, and an ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient. Fused silica is used for transmissive optics where a high laser damage threshold is required. Fused silica is used for optics operating in the deep UV, visible, and the near infrared wavelength range.

We also offer HALO View Window assemblies with standard low-iron tempered glass. It has a surface quality and flatness of Q4 per ASTM 1036-06 and 1048-04. This glass exhibits a slight blueish tint. It is the more economical window material we offer and is most commonly used for general, direct observation of roughing or high-vacuum chamber processes and can be used to facilitate optical alignments of chamber components, observe degassing of fluids, or used to help teach in-vacuo processes by direct observation. This economical glass is not suitable for high power laser experiments.

These opening viewports are field serviceable. Window panes can be replaced or changed to another material if experiment requirements change. Please see the graph below for the transmissivity curves of tempered glass and fused silica:

Fast Access ISO Entry Doors with windows employ a zero metal-to-glass contact design that holds a 3/8” thick window pane to a stainless steel ISO mounting plate. Windows are cushioned by O-rings on both window faces and use PTFE dowel pin spacers around the window edges. This cushioned window mounting system ensures operator safety and window longevity. The simple construction makes the FAED field serviceable. Bakeout to 150°C is permissable.

NOTE: All viewing windows or ports are inherently fragile, should be handled carefully, and always inspected before use. Ideal Vacuum viewing windows are designed and rated for VACUUM ONLY and can be susceptible to thermal shock if exposed to rapid temperature changes (>10° C /min). If directing a laser beam through the window, make sure the laser’s wavelength can be reasonably transmitted through the window’s material. Please download and read all the safety warnings in the Fast Access ISO Entry Door User Manual.
