Ideal Spectroscopy Habanero Reference Cell Furnace, 900°C Max Temperature

Ideal Spectroscopy HabaneroTM Reference Cell Furnace, 900°C Max Temperature.
(Heater Controller and Accessories NOT Included)

Ideal Spectroscopy's HabaneroTM is a compact, benchtop sized furnace compatible with all of Ideal Spectroscopy's sealed wavelength reference cells. The Habanero has a maximum operating temperature of 900°C, which is especially useful for high temperature references such as tellurium and the excited states of iodine. The Habanero can also operate at lower temperatures (<200°C) for use with any of Ideal Spectroscopy's sealed wavelength reference cells, although care must be taken to not exceed the damage threshold temperature of alkali and organic reference cells.

Raising the temperature of a reference material that is solid under normal conditions increases the number density of atoms or molecules in the gas phase. This increases the optical density of the reference, increasing signal to noise ratios and the number of lines that can be confidently used to calibrate your spectrum. Raising the temperature also changes the distribution of populated states, allowing access to calibration-quality absorption lines beginning from higher rotational, vibrational, and even electronic states in wavelength ranges inaccessible at normal room temperature. Some reference materials have absorption lines or peaks that move as a function of temperature. In these situations, precise, long-term temperature control is necessary to maintain calibration during the full duration of an experiment.

The Habanero provides a stable temperature and convenient housing for many reference cell applications. It provides an even, elevated temperature to maintain a constant absorption spectrum of tellurium for laser locking and spectrum calibration. For applications where greater resolution is required, it can be used in a saturated absorption system for doppler-free absorption spectroscopy. As configured, the Habanero is ready for use in transmission spectroscopy.

The Habanero has a maximum operating temperature of 900°C. It's resistive heating elements are designed to be powered by 100-120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 3.6 A and have a heating power of 425 W under these conditions. Reducing the voltage will result in a slower heating rate and reduced maximum temperature. The power is supplied to the heater via an included power cord equipped with a male NEMA 5-15 straight blade connector, which is the standard plug used in the United States. The power plug must be connected to a power regulating device, such as our PID Controller. Connecting directly to an unregulated power source (such as the wall or a power strip) will result in overheating and permanent damage to the device. The Habanero is equipped with a type K thermocouple with a male miniature straight blade connector for temperature monitoring. When the internal temperature is high, the outside furnace surface may reach up to 130°C. The furnace must have at least 3" of open space on each side and 12" of open space above it for adequate ventillation. We recommend that the furnace be elevated by at least 3" above the working surface it is placed on. The furnace should never be placed in an space that is enclosed on more than 4 sides when in operation.

The Habanero's windows are two 1" OD wedged fused silica windows. Replacement windows can be purchased from our website here or you may provide your own optics if focusing or other special considerations are required for your application. Be aware that many optical coatings degrade and curved optics may warp at elevated temperatures. The windows may be removed entirely but this will result in reduced heating performance and temperature uniformity.

Recommended Temperature Controller
We recommend using the Ideal Vacuum PID Plug & Play Heater Control System as the Habanero's heater controller. This PID controller easy to use and is pre-configured to accept the Habanero's thermocouple output. You will need the following accessories:
Recommended Mounting Accessories
The base of the Habanero has 8 x 8-32 tapped holes for mounting. We recommend using the following accessories for easiest mounting:
